Abstract:
The intra-cluster medium is usually expected to be in collisional ionization equilibrium (CIE) because the timescale for thermal equilibration for CIE is much shorter than the expected age of clusters. On the other hand, shocks are predicted to induce deviations from a CIE in the ICM, leading to a non-equilibrium ionization (NEI) state of the ICM. To search for the ICM in the NEI state, we analyze the X-ray spectra of the ICM between the northwestern and southeastern radio relics across a prominent cold front in the merging galaxy cluster A3667 using Suzaku. We found that the ICM inside the cold front in A3667 indicates an NEI state. In this talk, we will discuss the thermodynamic properties of the ICM in A3667 and the explanations for the presence of the NEI state of the ICM inside the cold front in A3667.
