Abstract:
The establishment of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) in 2009 established a firm basis for the advancement of Astronomy within Thailand. Since its inauguration, remarkable progress has been achieved, including the installation of a 2.4m optical telescope at the Thai National Observatory (TNO) located near the summit of Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain. This telescope achieved its first light in 2012. Moreover, the subsequent establishment of the Thai National Radio Astronomy Observatory (TNRO) in the northern part of Thailand has significantly bolstered the research capabilities of the Thai astronomy community. The TNRO is equipped with a 40m radio telescope, which commenced operations in 2022. As the demand for cutting-edge scientific equipment at these national facilities continues to rise, NARIT has been tasked with developing its own advanced technological proficiencies. This presentation outlines both recent and future research plans in the field of Astronomy and presents the most recent achievements and outlines forthcoming strategies for technological advancements.
