Abstract:
An outgassing model of the celestial bodies with a combination of Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC)  method has been developed. It allows us to study the dynamics of gas expansion which can automatically link the ydrodynamic flow region to the Knudsen flow regime with infrequent collisions, and also has been successfully adopted for the rarefied gas flow of exospheres and cometary outgassing. In this talk, I will detail our recent efforts at simulation of outgassing on comet 67P/C-G and the water vapor plume on the icy moons, Enceladus and Europa by using a parallel 3D DSMC code.
