Abstract:
In this talk I will report our recent advancements in several important aspects of the formation of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), the most massive galaxies in the universe.  We shall start with active star forming phases at z>1, then trace the stellar mass assembly history from z~1.2 to z~0.3.  In the local universe, we further investigate the merger activities, showing a good agreement between our observations based on integral field spectroscopic observations of a large BCG sample and the state-of-the-art simulation IllustrisTNG.  We conclude by discussing a topic that is closely related to feedback from massive galaxies (BCGs included), namely the alignment between the supermassive black hole spin and the rotation axis of the host galaxy.
