Abstract:
Advanced LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA have detected tens of stellar mass compact binary mergers, including binary black holes, binary neutron stars, and potentially neutron star-black hole mergers. These binary merger detections carried plenty of information about the binaries and the Universe. In this talk I will focus on two topics we learned from the gravitational-wave detections: the properties of the extreme matter in neutron stars and the expansion rate of the Universe. I will first summarize current status of the field. I will then discuss the challenges and future possibilities to improve the studies.
