Postdoc Positions in Astronomy and Astrophysics at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

The Institute of Astronomy at National Tsing Hua University invites applicants in all areas of astronomy and astrophysics for two postdoc positions to start before December 1st 2019.  Successful applicants will carry out independent, original research and collaborate with staff at NTHU/IoA as part of the newly-established Centre for Informatics and Computation in Astronomy (CICA). Applicants interested computation and innovative data analysis methods are particularly welcome.

The position is funded for one year initially and can be extended up to four years if funding remains available. Research expenses, including conference/observing travel, will be supported. IoA has a new in-house High Performance Computing facility and access to the Taiwania supercomputer.

Research at NTHU/IoA includes theoretical and observational studies of high-energy astrophysics, gravitational waves, galactic archaeology, galaxy clusters, cosmology, and star and planet formation. IoA faculty observe with Chandra, XMM, Fermi, NuSTAR, HST, Subaru, Spitzer, SMA, JCMT and ALMA; run simulations of stellar evolution, supernovae, galaxy evolution and galaxy cluster physics; and are involved in surveys including HyperSuprimeCam, DESI, AKARI, the KAGRA gravitational wave observatory, ALMA-IMF, JCMT BISTRO and Transient, and CFHT SPIRou. Instrumentation projects include the Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI) in collaboration with UCB/SSL and an exoplanet transit network.

The IoA is committed to an inclusive, supportive working environment that values equality and diversity. We strongly encorage applicants who consider their background, personal characteristics or career path to be underrepresented in academia.

Applicants should submit a resume, publication list, a research plan and five representative reprints (where possible as URLs), and arrange at least three reference letters to be sent to the Personnel Committee, Institute of Astronomy, National Tsing Hua University, No. 101, Sec. 2, Kuang Fu Road, Hsinchu 30013, Taiwan, or via email to slai@phys.nthu.edu.tw.

Applications received prior to July 31 2019 will receive full consideration, but the search will continue until the positions are filled. For further information about the IoA, see http://www.astr.nthu.edu.tw. Informal inquiries can be made to Prof. Shih-Ping Lai (slai@phys.nthu.edu.tw).
